ROSE staking with a hardware-secured wallet

A practical guide to staking ROSE on the Oasis Network using a desktop ROSE wallet and a Ledger hardware device — built for institutional-grade custody.

Why hardware signing matters for your ROSE wallet

Browser extension wallets keep your private keys inside the browser. That makes them easy to phish, easy to compromise via malicious extensions, and impossible to fully isolate from the websites you visit. For a long-term ROSE holder — especially one staking meaningful amounts — that risk profile is not acceptable.

A desktop ROSE wallet paired with a Ledger device moves the signing key onto dedicated hardware. The key never leaves the device. Every transaction is reviewed and approved on the device's secure display. This is the same custody model used by exchanges, validators, and treasuries.

Keys stay offline

Your ROSE private key is generated on the Ledger and never touches your computer's memory or disk.

Native desktop app

Code-signed, reproducible builds. No browser sandbox, no extension store, no silent updates.

On-device confirmation

Every delegation, undelegation, and reward claim is verified on the Ledger screen before signing.

Phishing resistant

Malicious sites cannot trick the device into signing a transaction you did not approve in person.

Before you start

  • A Ledger Nano S Plus or Nano X with the latest firmware.
  • The Oasis app installed through Ledger Live.
  • The OasisWallet desktop application installed on macOS, Windows, or Linux.
  • A small amount of ROSE for the initial transaction fee.

Step 1 — Install OasisWallet

Download the desktop ROSE wallet from the official download page and verify the installer signature. Reproducible builds let you confirm the binary you run matches the public source.

Step 2 — Connect your Ledger

Unlock your Ledger, open the Oasis app, and connect the device by USB. OasisWallet will detect the hardware account automatically — no seed phrase entry required on the computer.

Step 3 — Pick a validator

Open the staking dashboard and review the validator list. Compare commission, uptime, and self-stake. You can split your stake across several validators to reduce slashing and downtime risk.

Step 4 — Delegate ROSE

Enter the amount to delegate, review the transaction summary, then approve it on your Ledger device. Rewards accrue per epoch and compound automatically when you redelegate.

Undelegation and the debonding period

ROSE has a debonding period of roughly 14 days. Plan undelegations in advance — your tokens cannot be transferred or restaked until debonding completes. The same hardware approval flow applies to undelegation.
